About A11yCompass

The Accessibility Compass is a Digital Accessibility practice and research site exploring how accessibility can be implemented reliably across complex digital products and organizations.

Scope

This site examines Digital Accessibility from a systems and delivery perspective, including:

  • Accessibility in large-scale digital systems
  • E-commerce accessibility
  • Screen reader experience
  • Keyboard interaction patterns
  • Accessibility governance, risk and standards.

The Accessibility Compass is a structured body of work focused on building Digital Accessibility that lasts across teams, budgets, redesigns and technology shifts.

It consolidates reflections, field experience and applied analysis drawn from over two decades in digital product development.

Accessibility should not depend on heroics. If it does, it becomes fragile. Durable accessibility emerges when it is embedded in processes, interfaces and decision-making.

Who This Site Is For

The Accessibility Compass is written for professionals involved in the delivery and governance of digital products, including:

  • Accessibility specialists and program leads
  • UX and product designers
  • Frontend developers and technical leads
  • Digital product managers and platform owners
  • Governance, compliance and risk teams.

The articles focus on translating accessibility standards and policies into practical implementation across real-world digital systems.

About the Author

Hello, I’m Miguel Estrada, based in Montreal, Canada.

I am a former designer and developer with decades of experience in digital product delivery across multiple industries. I’m formally grounded in IT management and committed to UX and inclusive design.

My background includes:

  • Enterprise solutions
  • Frontend development
  • E-commerce platforms
  • Business intelligence dashboards
  • CMS implementations
  • UX-driven interface design.

I have contributed to large-scale digital initiatives for major retail and enterprise organizations across Canada, Europe and the United States.

I currently work for a multinational software company as an Accessibility Practice Lead, supporting accessibility governance, enablement and remediation across a portfolio of more than 30 digital products.

I write about turning global accessibility policy into scalable, real-world inclusive practice.

All views expressed on this site are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of any organization I am affiliated with.

Perspective

My work is influenced by technical possibilities, systems thinking, behavioural psychology and long-term organizational design.

Technical compliance matters. However, durability and user-centred usability matter just as much.

The deeper one goes into Digital Accessibility, the clearer it becomes that it is not purely technical, nor purely legal, nor purely experiential. It sits at the intersection of all three.

This site exists to explore that intersection with clarity and structure.
